Begin in Hanoi, the bustling capital of Vietnam, discover its important sites and an ancient capital,   “Halong in the rice-fields” and after a night train journey, meet the colorful, minority mountainous people. Next, you visit two UNESCO Listed sites, one Halong Bay in Vietnam, and then fly to Luang Prabang in Laos to explore the UNESCO Listed town.  Enjoy a river cruise, visit some venerated and sacred caves,  cruise back past pristine environs and jungle; discover waterfalls, manicured gardens, the mysterious Plain of Jars, before flying to Vientiane to explore the emerging capital before the tour ends.

ITINERARY in detail

Day 1: Hanoi - Arrival


  • Met and welcomed by your guide upon arrival
  • Transfer to hotel by private car
  • Enjoy a traditional cyclo ride of exploration through the busy streets of the ‘Old Quarter’
  • Discover Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple
  • Enjoy a water puppet show, a traditional and ancient art form, unique to Vietnam
  • Overnight at a hotel in Hanoi.



Day 2: Hanoi - Hoa Lu & Tam Coc

Halong on land - Splendors of Vietnam and Cambodge

  • Head for Tam Coc town, known as ‘Halong Bay in the rice fields
  • Board small sampan and traverse the Ngo Dong River through the rice fields
  • Enter three sacred caves, the Tam Coc Caves
  • Have lunch in Tam Coc town
  • Take a short bicycle ride to the Bich Dong Pagoda
  • Enjoy the exceptional view of the whole site
  • Return to Hanoi in the afternoon
  • Overnight at a hotel in Hanoi including breakfast.


Day 3: Hanoi - City tour - TRAIN - Lao Cai

  • Visit Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum to see the embalmed body of the nation’s hero
  • Visit the One Pillar Pagoda
  • Visit the Temple of Literature
  • Discover the Tran Quoc Pagoda, one of the oldest in Vietnam
  • Visit Quan Thanh Temple situated on the Truc Bach Lakeshore
  • Enjoy a lunch of the specialties of Hanoi
  • Visit the Ethnology Museum, one of the finest museums in the country
  • In the evening, take a night train to Lao Cai
  • Overnight on train


Day 4: Sapa - Y Linh Ho - Lao Chai - Ta Van


  • Arrive at Lao Cai Train Station very early in the morning
  • Refresh in a provided bathroom and have breakfast
  • Transfer by private vehicle to Sapa for a day of hiking to meet ethnic minorities in their homelands, in the heart of rice fields
  • Visit the village of Y Linh Ho in Muong Hoa valley
  • Trek for about 6 km through landscapes of terraced rice fields to Lao Chai village, home of the Black H'mong minority group.
  • Meet people proudly dressed in their distinct identifying costumes
  • Walk a distance of 2 km to the Ta Van Giay village inhabited by other ethnic groups
  • Transfer back to Sapa
  • Overnight at a hotel in Sapa, breakfast included.


Day 5: Sapa - Bac Ha market - Ban Pho - TRAIN -  Hanoi

  • Transfer by private car from Sapa to Bac Ha
  • Attend the Bac Ha Area Market, probably the most colorful market in all of Northern Vietnam with local handicrafts, rice wine, fresh fruit, meat and live animals
  • Pay a visit to the H’mong Kings House (King Hoang A Tuong), built by the French in 1920
  • Visit Ban Pho village and meet with the colorful Tay and H’mong inhabitants
  • Journey back to Lao Cai passing many tea plantations and small villages
  • In the evening take a night journey to Hanoi
  • Overnight on train


Day 6 Hanoi - Halong - Cruise and night on board


  • Transfer from Hanoi to Halong Bay by private car with tour guide
  • Halong Bay, with its 1969 islands, is set in beautiful turquoise waters and was recognized for its natural beauty by UNESCO in 1994, and classified as a World Heritage Site.
  • Receive a welcome drink on boarding
  • Install in private cabins
  • Start your cruise while enjoying lunch.
  • Lunch is served from a delicious seafood menu while cruising to magnificent Bai Tu Long Bay
  • Admire the beautiful landscapes
  • Visit the mysterious Canh Thien cave
  • Relax on the island beach and enjoy swimming
  • Kayak for 1 hour
  • Dinner is served outdoors, (weather permitting), or in the indoor dining room
  • Overnight on board


Day 7 Halong - Cruise - Hanoi 


  • Breakfast will be served under the morning sun
  • Enjoy a journey through the Vung Vieng fishing village
  • Discover the floating houses and the lifestyle of its population, who live permanently on the water, and visit a floating school
  • Lunch on board the junk will close this beautiful cruise
  • Disembark from the junk
  • Return to Hanoi in the late afternoon
  • Overnight at a hotel in Hanoi including breakfast.



Day 8 Hanoi - FLY - Luang Prabang

  • Free time until transfer to the airport for a flight to Luang Prabang
  • Upon arrival, met and welcomed by our guide and transfer to your hotel
  • Overnight at a hotel in Luang Prabang including breakfast.


Day 9 Luang Prabang - City tour

  • Early rise to witness the monks collecting alms
  • Visit some small morning markets, selling strange goods
  • Discover the local cuisine
  • Return to the hotel for breakfast

Then we continue our tour of the ancient capital by tuk-tuk:

  • Discover the beautiful Wat Xieng Thong, the royal Funeral Chariot and the reclining Buddha sanctuary
  • The oldest temple in Luang Prabang, and houses gold statues of Buddha
  • Find the That Makmo stone stupa
  • Vat Ahman, dedicated to ancestors of Laos
  • Explore the National Museum
  • See the richly decorated temple, Wat Mai
  • Stroll through the Darat market
  • Climb Mount Phousi for panoramic views, and sunset
  • Enjoy a relaxing massage
  • Visit the nightly H’mong market
  • Enjoy a dance spectacle and welcoming ceremony
  • Overnight at a hotel in Luang Prabang including breakfast.


Day 10 Luang Prabang - Cruise - Pak Ou - Kamu Lodge

Kamu Lodged

  • Rendezvous at the Luang Prabang pier.
  • Board a traditional wooden boat for the river cruise
  • Watch the riverbanks for bathing animals, or locals gold panning
  • Disembark after approx 1hr 30 mins to explore the two sacred caves at Pak Ou
  • Continue cruising through wilderness areas until we reach Kamu Lodge
  • Participate in different activities, or enjoy a tour of an ethnic Kamu village
  • Overnight at Kamu Lodge
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner included


Day 11: Kamu Lodge - Luang Prabang - Khuang Sy

Pak Ou

  • Enjoy a relaxing morning at Kamu Lodge
  • Cruise back to Luang Prabang on the traditional riverboat
  • On arrival back to Luang Prabang, depart for the beautiful Khuang Sy Waterfalls
  • Past traditional houses and lovely nature places
  • Discover the falls, nestled in lush vegetation
  • Relax and swim in the clear, blue pools of water there
  • Visit several villages, including a weaving and Saa paper producing one
  • Explore the town its markets, including the H’mong market, which trades from 5 pm
  • Watch a dance show at the Royal Palace
  • Overnight at a hotel in Luang Prabang including breakfast.


Day 12: Luang Prabang - Xieng Khuang Province - The Plain of Jars

  • Begin with a drive to the province of Xieng Khuang
  • Explore the “Plain of Jars” (site 1)
  • Discover massive sandstone jars weighing as much as 6 tons, scattered over a dozen separate sites
  • The origin of these jars is still unknown and further future excavations hope to answer this question
  • Attend villages of ethnic H’mong and Thai Phuan Dam people
  • Overnight at a hotel in Phonsavan including breakfast.



Day 13: Xieng Khuang - FLY - Vientiane


  • Visit sites 2 and 3 of the unexplained Plain of Jars
  • Discover the local market in Phonsavan
  • Transfer to the airport for a flight to Vientiane
  • Upon arrival, met and welcomed by our guide, and transfer to your hotel
  • Overnight at a hotel in Vientiane including breakfast.




Day 14: Vientiane - City tour


Vientiane - City Tour by tuk-tuk:

  • Discover Vat Sisaket, built in 1818
  • Then Phraken Ho, the former royal chapel, the power base of the Kingdom of Lane Xang
  • See Patouxay, a large monument built to commemorate the Lao people who died in pre-Revolutionary wars
  • The large golden stupa of That Luang, founded in 1566 and is said to contain a hair of Buddha
  • Explore the temple Wat Si Muang, the most visited temple in Vientiane, considered the seat of the guardian spirit of the city
  • Relax with a steam bath and massage
  • Enjoy free time for personal investigations
  • Enjoy dinner with a folk dance show
  • Overnight at a hotel in Vientiane
  • Breakfast, dinner included.


Day 15: Vientiane - Departure

  • Free time until transfer to the airport for your departure flight
