Our 19 Days Splendors Laos-Cambodia Tour offers clients an opportunity to visit neighbouring countries Laos and Cambodia to compare their cultures, customs, sites, histories and people.

Begin your journey in the emerging capital city of Laos, Vientiane, and enjoy a guided tour of its sites. Moving on to Vang Vieng to see its wonderful, riverside setting, before investigating and exploring the UNESCO Listed city of Luang Prabang, a former capital, seat of the Royals and the religious heart of the country, and enjoy some time at an elephant camp while here. Take a short flight to Pakse, explore historical Wats, before seeing and relaxing in the 4000 Islands. We cross into Cambodia and continue on to Kratie, try some exotic food, then on to the awesome Temples of Angkor that are a historical reflection of life in Cambodia in bygone days. After exploring other sites in the surrounds of Siem Reap, fly to Phnom Penh and discover the city, then move down to the coastal region for some deserved beach time.

Itinerary in detail

 

 

Day 1: Vientiane - Arrival - City tour


Vientiane

  • Met and welcomed by our tour guide upon arrival at the airport
  • Transfer by private car to your hotel.

Vientiane - City Tour by tuk-tuk:

  • Discover Vat Sisaket, built in 1818
  • Then Phraken Ho, the former royal chapel, the power base of the Kingdom of Lane Xang
  • See Patouxay, a large monument built to commemorate the Lao people who died in pre-Revolutionary wars
  • The large golden stupa of That Luang, founded in 1566 and is said to contain a hair of Buddha
  • Explore the temple Wat Si Muang, the most visited temple in Vientiane, considered the seat of the guardian spirit of the city
  • Overnight at a hotel in Vientiane.

 

Day 2: Vientiane - Vang Vieng

  • Travel to Vang Vieng
  • On the way, stop to visit a village to witness rural life
  • Upon arrival, enjoy a downhill banana boat Song Nam to get to hotel
  • Overnight at a hotel in Van Vieng including breakfast.

 

 

 

 

Day 3: Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang

  • Visit the local market
  • Discover some of the spectacular caves of the district 
  • Explore the historical site of Vang Xang
  • Depending on the season (for a small added cost) experience the fun of the downhill banana boat song nam
  • Depart for Luang Prabang, traveling on a well surfaced road
  • Pass through gorgeous scenery, often surrounded by rice fields and mountains
  • Stop at the village of Meo to visit a tea plantation
  • Overnight at a hotel in Luang Prabang including b

    reakfast.

 

Day 4: Luang Prabang - Cruise - Pak Ou - Kamu Lodge

  • Rendesvous at the Luang Prabang pier.
  • Board a traditional wooden boat for the river cruise
  • Watch the riverbanks for bathing animals, or locals gold panning
  • Disembark after approx 1hr 30 mins to explore the two sacred caves at Pak Ou
  • Continue cruising through wilderness areas until we reach Kamu Lodge
  • Participate in different activities, or enjoy a tour of an ethnic Kamu village
  • Overnight at Kamu Lodge
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

 

Day 5: Kamu Lodge - Luang Prabang


Pak Ou

  • Enjoy a relaxing morning at Kamu Lodge
  • Cruise back to Luang Prabang on the traditional riverboat
  • On arrival back to Luang Prabang, enjoy a city tour of Luang Prabang
  • Discover the beautiful Wat Xieng Thong, the royal Funeral Chariot and the reclining Buddha sanctuary
  • The oldest temple in Luang Prabang, and houses gold statues of Buddha
  • Find the That Makmo stone stupa
  • Vat Ahman, dedicated to ancestors of Laos
  • Overnight at a hotel in Luang Prabang including breakfast.

 

Day 6: Luang Prabang - Ban Phanom - Tomb of Henri Mouhot - Elephant ride - Tad Sae waterfall

  • Depart for the village of Ban Phanom, known for its 100% silk weavings
  • Continue on to the tomb of Henry Mouhot a young French explorer
  • Swim in the fresh water on the banks of the Nam Khan River
  • Visit the Tiger Trail Elephant Camp and the adjacent Adventure Camp
  • Take a 1 hour elephant ride through the forest
  • Take a small journey to the Tad Sae waterfalls and can cool off before our return to Luang Prabang
  • Overnight at a hotel in Luang Prabang
  • Breakfast and a typical Lao lunch included.

 

Day 7: Luang Prabang - Fly - Pakse - Wat Phou - Champassak - Dong Deang


Champasak

  • Transfer to the airport for a flight to Pakse, the south of Laos
  • Met and welcomed by local tour guide in Pakse upon arrival at the airport
  • Travel to Champassak
  • Explore sacred Vat Phu
  • Cross the Mekong River by ferry
  • Transfer to Don Deang Island
  • Overnight at a hotel on Dong Deang Island including breakfast.

 

Day 8: Dong Deang - Khong Island


Khong Island

  • Cross the Mekong River by ferry to the site of the "4000 Islands" and its wonderful peaceful landscapes
  • Visit Det and Som islands to discover fishing life of locals
  • Overnight at a hotel on Khong Island including breakfast.

 

 

 

 

 

Day 9: Khong island - Khone island - Khone Phapeng


Ile-de-Khong

  • Explore Ban Khong village and Wat Keo Phouang
  • Detour to visit the local market
  • Cruise in a motorised canoe through this spectacular region
  • Discover Khone Island’s old colonial mansions
  • Find spectacular Phapheng Waterfall, S-E Asia’s largest
  • Lunch at the Kingfisher Ecolodge
  • Observe rare “Irrawaddy” dolphins
  • Overnight at a hotel on Khong Island including breakfast.

 

Day 10: Khone Phapeng - Stung Treng - Kratie

  • Transfer by road to Kralor Dom, on the border with Cambodia
  • After completing Customs formalities, and meeting our Cambodia guide
  • Drive to Kratie via Strung Treng
  • Have a quick city tour of Stung Treng
  • Pay a visit to the village of Thala Barivat
  • Upon arrival in Kratie, visit Wat Phnom Sambok to discover a Buddhist monastery
  • Take the road to the river dolphins where you will probably see dolphins until sunset.
  • Drive to Khong island, the site of the "4000 islands" and its wonderful peaceful landscapes
  • Overnight at Sala Koh Trong lodge in Kratie including breakfast.

 

Day 11: Kratie - Kompong Thom - Siem Reap


Kampong Cham

  • Leave Kratie for Siem Reap via Kompong Thom
  • Cross many varied landscapes including rice fields, forests of rubber trees, and sugar palms
  • Explore the temples of Sambor Prei Kuk, some of the oldest structures in the country, built by King Ishanavaman in the early 7th century
  • Visit Wat Nokor, a colourful pre-Angkorian Buddhist temple, then the nearby village and monastery
  • Overnight at a hotel in Siem Reap including breakfast.

 

 

 

Day 12: Siem Reap - Angkor Thom - Angkor Wat 


Elephant ride in Siem Reap

  • Depart for an elephant farm early in the morning
  • Take an elephant ride up the hill of Phnom Bakheng to see the sunrise
  • Explore the walled city of Angkor Thom, 10sq kms in size
  • Visit the South Gate, Bayon
  • See the fascinating Buddhist monastery of Ta Phrom, invaded by the jungle over many years
  • Visit the Baphuon with its splendid sculptures
  • Pass through the Terrace of the Elephants
  • See the Terrace of the Leper King with its beautiful carvings of gods, nagas, and dancers
  • the Royal Enclosure and its small temple, Phimeanakas
  • Discover and explore Angkor Wat, built in the first half of the twelfth century, and dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu
  • Witness the sunset, from the top of the hill of Phnom Bakheng

Day 13: Siem Reap - Roluos group - Tonle Sap


Tonle Sap

  • Visit the Roluos group, Hindu worship temples dating from the late 9th century
  • Explore the temple Preah Ko, erected by Indravarman in the late 9th century
  • See the temple Lolei, the twin to Preah Ko, and see its sandstone carvings
  • Discover the temple Bakong, the largest of the Rolous group
  • Drive to the fishing village of Kampung Phluk, on the banks of the Tonle Sap Lake
  • Take a cruise on a local boat to explore some of the nearby floating villages
  • See the huts of bamboo and straw, built on stilts to avoid flooding
  • Practice some of the traditional fishing techniques employed by the locals
  • Overnight at a hotel in Siem Reap including breakfast.

 

Day 14: Siem Reap - Fly - Phnom Penh

  • Transfer to the airport for a flight to Phnom Penh
  • Upon arrival, met and welcomed by our guide and transfer to hotel
  • Tour of the capital which has retained its charm with its beautiful colonial buildings, wide avenues, monuments and beautiful Khmer architecture.
  • Visit the National Museum of Fine Arts, a collection of sculptures exhibiting pre-Angkorian and Angkorian,
  • Visit the Royal Palace, resplendent in traditional Khmer architecture
  • See the Silver Pagoda and its magnificent Emerald Buddha
  • Explore Wat Phnom, the oldest of the city, and see the statue of Madam Penh
  • Overnight at a hotel in Phnom Penh including breakfast.

 

Day 15: Phnom Penh - Kampot - Kep


Mekong

  • Take the journey towards Kampot
  • On the way visit Kampong Trach
  • See the concealed caves in the limestone mountains, and their natural water wells
  • Visit the Ang Ang Viel and Thmar Dos caves.
  • Upon arrival in Kampot, see the wonderful colonial French architecture, a reminder of bygone days
  • Continue to the township of Kep
  • Overnight at a hotel in Kep including breakfast.

 

Day 16: Kep


Kep

  • Enjoy free time at your leisure

  • Transfer from Kep to Sihanoukville
