Arrive in romantic Hanoi and after a guided city tour enjoys a trip to Halong Bay on land before taking a night train journey to the mountainous north to find stunning terraced hillsides, quaint villages and colorful ethnic minorities, in a world so different to your own. Enjoy some easy hiking to local villages and markets before returning by train to Hanoi and enjoy some hiking in Mai Chau before embarking on a memorable cruise of Heritage Listed Halong Bay. Fly into the cultural center of Hue for exploration, before moving on to Heritage Listed Hoi An. Fly to HCM City, enjoy a visit to some wartime underground tunnels, before heading to the Mekong Delta and experiencing the life on canals. Cross the border and take a boat to the capital of Phnom Penh, before flying to Siem Reap, the home of the awesome Temples of Angkor, so revered by the nation that Angkor Wat appears on the nation's flag.

Day 1: Hanoi - Arrival

Day 2: Hanoi - City tour

This city tour gives a glimpse and an introduction to the history and highlights of the nation’s capital and includes:

  • Visit Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum to see the embalmed body of the nation’s hero
  • Visit the One Pillar Pagoda
  • Visit the Temple of Literature
  • Discover the Tran Quoc Pagoda, one of the oldest in Vietnam
  • Enjoy a lunch of the specialties of Hanoi
  • Visit Quan Thanh Temple situated on the Truc Bach Lakeshore
  • Visit the Ethnology Museum, one of the finest museums in the country.

Day 3: Hanoi - Hoa Lu & Tam Coc - TRAIN - Sapa


Halong on land

  • Head north to Hoa Lu, the site of the country’s first capital (years968-1009)
  • Visit the temples of Dinh Tien Hoang (restored in the 17th century) and Le Dai Hanh
  • Head for Tam Coc town, known as ‘Halong Bay in the rice fields
  • Have lunch in Tam Coc town
  • Board small sampan and traverse the Ngo Dong River through the rice fields
  • Enter three sacred caves, the Tam Coc Caves
  • In the evening take a night journey to Lao Cai
  • Overnight on train

 

Day 4: Sapa- Bac Ha Market - Ban Pho - Sapa


Bac Ha market

  • Arrive at Lao Cai Train Station very early in the morning
  • Refresh in a provided bathroom and have breakfast
  • Transfer by private car from Sapa to Bac Ha
  • Attend the Bac Ha Area Market, probably the most colorful market in all of Northern Vietnam with local handicrafts, rice wine, fresh fruit, meat and live animals
  • Pay a visit to the H’mong Kings House (King Hoang A Tuong), built by the French in 1920
  • Visit Ban Pho village and meet with the colorful Tay and H’mong inhabitants
  • Journey back to Sapa passing many tea plantations and small villages
  • Overnight in Sapa with breakfast included.

 

Day 5: Sapa - Y Linh Ho - Lao Chai - Ta Van - TRAIN - Hanoi


Sapa

  • A day of hiking to meet ethnic minorities in their homelands, in the heart of rice fields
  • Visit the village of Y Linh Ho in Muong Hoa valley
  • Trek for about 6 km through landscapes of terraced rice fields to Lao Chai village, home of the Black H'mong minority group.
  • Meet people proudly dressed in their distinct identifying costumes
  • Walk a distance of 2 km to the Ta Van Giay village inhabited by other ethnic groups
  • Transfer back to Sapa
  • In the late afternoon take bus to Hanoi on the highway.
  • Overnight at hotel in Hanoi.

 

Day 6: Hanoi - Halong - CRUISE and NIGHT on board

  • Transfer from Hanoi to Halong Bay by private car with tour guide
  • Halong Bay, with its 1969 islands, is set in beautiful turquoise waters and was recognized for its natural beauty by UNESCO in 1994, and classified as a World Heritage Site.

  • Start your cruise while enjoying lunch
  • Lunch is served from a delicious seafood menu while cruising to magnificent Bai Tu Long Bay
  • Admire the beautiful landscapes
  • Visit the Vung Vieng fishing village by local rowing boat
  • Discover the floating houses and the lifestyle of its population, who live permanently on the water and visit a floating school
  • Return to the vessel for free time at your leisure: Kayak into the floating village or swim near the Bhaya Junk

Day 7: Halong - CRUISE – Hanoi - FLY - Hue

Day 9: Hue - Hai Van pass - Hoi An

  • Travel by private car from Hue to Hoian via the Hai Van Pass.
  • Visit the Museum of Cham Sculpture in Da Nang on the way.
  • Discover the five Marble Mountains, each named after a component of the planet; Fire, Wood. Iron Water and Earth
  • Enjoy a delightful stroll around the ancient town, and discover the reasons why UNESCO bestowed World Heritage rating on the town.
  • See the 400yr old covered Japanese Bridge, temples, pagodas, museums and other architectural monuments

Day 12: HCM City - Cao Dai Temple & Cu Chi Tunnels

  • Drive through the countryside to Tay Ninh Province
  • Observe picturesque scenery, local people and village life on the way
  • Visit the Cao Dai Temple
  • See the melding of the secular and religious philosophies from East and West

  • Visit the famous Cu Chi Tunnels, part of an unbelievably complex system of tunnels built by the Vietnamese resistance fighters
  • Return to HCM City late in the afternoon

Day 13: HCM City - Cai Be - Vinh Long - Can Tho

  • Head for the rich, fertile lands of the mighty Mekong River Delta region
  • Board a local sampan and cruise through the maze of narrow waterways and canals
  • Travel to Vinh Long
  • Visit a rice popcorn factory and an ancient colonial house

  • Travel by road to Can Tho, the largest town and trade center in the Mekong Delta

Day 14: Can Tho - Cai Rang - Chau Doc

  • Visit the colorful and vibrant Cai Rang floating market and Ba Cong fruit orchard

  • Go to the 100yr old Binh Thuy Ancient House

  • Depart to Chau Doc

Day 15: Chau Doc - BOAT - Phnom Penh

  • Transfer to pier to take a boat to Phnom Penh
  • Visit the National Museum of Fine Arts, a collection of sculptures exhibiting pre-Angkorian and Angkorian,
  • Visit the Royal Palace, resplendent in traditional Khmer architecture  
  • See the Silver Pagoda and its magnificent Emerald Buddha
  • Take a stroll through the Central Market, famous for its Art Deco architecture.
  • Overnight in Phnom Penh with breakfast included.

 

Day 16: Phnom Penh - FLY - Siem Reap

  • Explore Wat Phnom, the oldest of the city, and see the statue of Madam Penh
  • Visit the Museum of Genocidal Crime, which was the S-21 prison – the scene of the worst examples of brutality and torture under the infamous Pol Pot
  • Visit the camp Choeng Ek Killing Field, outside Phnom Penh, the last resting place of many Cambodian people, whose killings were committed by the brutal Khmer Rouge regime.
  • Transfer to the airport to take the flight to Phnom Penh
  • Overnight in Phnom Penh with breakfast.

Day 17: Siem Reap - Angkor Thom - Angkor Wat

  • Visit the South Gate, Bayon

  • See the Terrace of the Leper King with its beautiful carvings of gods, nagas, and dancers

  • Explore the beautiful temple of Beng Mealea, built in the 12th century
