If you are traveling in Vietnam, you can spend a day visiting Hanoi. If you have more than one day, you can then leave the city to discover its surroundings. Here is our suggestion for your day in Hanoi during your tour in Vietnam.

  • 06h00: You can walk around the hotel to enjoy a Pho or a Bun Cha for breakfast. Then head to one of the city's many cafes for coffee or tea, this will be good for digestion.

  • 08h00: Leave the hotel to visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (pay attention to the opening hours of the Mausoleum, it is closed on Mondays and Fridays). If it is closed, you can walk outside, take pictures and visit the One Pillar Pagoda. Note that you will have to present your passport if you wish to visit the Mausoleum through the back door via Ngoc Ha Street.

It is about 1 km away from the One Pillar Pagoda (you can ask the inhabitants or the guards if you do not have a map). Then continue by visiting the Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest temple in Hanoi. The distance between the Mausoleum and this temple is about 2.5 km. You can also choose to go to the temple first, then to the Mausoleum.

  • 10h30: Visit the Tran Quoc Pagoda and walk around the West Lake (about 4 km from the Temple of Literature). Attention, the street Van Mieu is one-way!

  • 12h00: After visiting the West Lake and the Tran Quoc Pagoda, you can find a restaurant to eat Pho Beef or Pho Cuon before enjoying an ice cream in front of the Tran Quoc Pagoda.

  • 13h30: In the afternoon, you can visit the Museum of Ethnology on your way to Nguyen Van Huyen (Cau Giay area, about 8 km from the center). Here you will have the opportunity to discover all the ethnic cultures of Vietnam.

  • 15h00: Return to the center of Hanoi and go directly to the Hoan Kiem Lake. After visiting the Ngoc Son temple, if you enjoy walking, you can walk around Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter, and sit at a cafe-terrace to enjoy a drink.

  • 17h30: Return to the hotel and dinner.

  • 20h00: At night, you will have a number of options. Go to the night market on weekends (Friday to Sunday), if you feel like it. You can bike or motorcycle on the Long Long Bridge, drink lemon tea on deck, watch Hanoi at night, or assist to a Water Puppet show. In addition, you can also drink lemon tea on the street near the Great Cathedral.
